Faith Under Water

Faith is water
to the depths of a soul,
Those parched on the inside
Making them whole
Then why,
Does it hold my
Head under water?
Why does it drain me
Turning me cold?

Every word in the book
Sweeter than honey,
Every prayer whispered,
In silence hoping,
Peace slipping
When the multitudes look,
Watching & waiting,
For one tiny slip,
One little failing.

Born under stars,
Taught of its wonders,
Held between hearts
That pulled mine asunder.
Called me a sinner
For love. For life.
For the dreams,
That drew a different line
Or shone a different colour

Why did something sweet,
Turn bitter inside me?
When did love infinite,
Turn suffocating?

Or was it all easier to believe,
Just ‘cause I was thirteen?
