My God, My God – Are you Truly?

in continuation to my previous poem: My God, My God – I’m no Fool

Pray answer me:
Was any of it true?
You preach a life of love,
But they that follow You
Don’t seem to.

That Father at Your altar,
Draining all innocence off Your daughters —
Did You hear her broken laughter,
That voice of hers in choirs?
Echoes of: “Bless Thee, God, my Father,”
Now forever a silenced prayer
To a Savior who didn’t save her.

She worshiped: “Thou art holy!”
Teaching verses in deep reverence,
Starved her children for disobedience,
Claiming justice in their destruction.
Dried tears, flesh teared in penance —
Did it please Thy magnificence,
To call a child “the evil presence”?

My God, My God — now hear me!
Had they all forsaken Thee,
The earth may not still bleed
From crosses strapped for greed,
And hate dressed as holy.
Are You
God for them or God for me?

My God, My God,
I’m sorry —
Forsaken, I’d rather be.
